I don’t know WHAT I was thinking!

Lately, I’ve been feeling the itch to get away and decompress a little. I haven’t taken a vacation since last August when I went to the Dominican Republic on my own, spent the last 2 days running from my bed to the bathroom, and then fainted in the airport on the way home.

Last week, I spontaneously decided to take a week of vacation time and spent 8 hours on Friday night searching all the travel sites for an affordable vacation spot that wouldn’t entail multiple airport lay-overs to get there and home again. My general preference is typically a beach destination, but I kept an open mind. I just love the revitalizing scent of the ocean air, the grounding feeling of the sand as it squishes up through my toes, and, of course, the sound of the waves crashing around me as if to say, “Relax! Enjoy! So glad you’re here!”

But, alas, this was not to be this time as I was unsuccessful in finding my beach – not without spending enough money to purchase a small car, that is.

As the saying goes, “Everything happens for a reason”. This morning I decided to venture out for a walk. I’ve lived in the same neighborhood for close to 5 years now, and in that time I’ve walked, run, and cycled the area many times, but I have never gone off the paved paths.

I’m so glad that this morning I decided to take the path less traveled. In doing so, I found something just as good, if not better, than the beach I originally sought. Just 7 minutes away from my home I found my own little slice of Zen……

Needless to say, I’ll be spending a lot more time venturing off the paved path.
