Social Networking for New Entrepreneurs

I’ve had a lot of questions lately about how to effectively use social media, so I thought the timing was good to look at different and creative ways we can leverage some of the different social networking options available to help you reach new and prospective clients and grow your list.

For me, personally, my number one goal has always been to create a social media footprint that drives all of my online marketing activities right back to my business website. This is very important because this is where you’ll do most of your direct interaction and selling.

With the speed that technology is advancing, it can be really difficult and overwhelming to keep up with all of the latest and greatest social media options out there on the web. But here’s a secret – you don’t need to keep up with everything. You only need to focus on what’s best for your business. It may not make sense for you to have a Google+ presence if your ideal clients don’t even know what Google+ is. The key is to understand where your people spend their time and then create your community in that forum.

In terms of new small to medium businesses, I have seen the best results primarily in 2 areas – Facebook and Linked In. However, Pintrest is really picking up speed. There are some really cool and easy strategies you can use with Pintrest to create buzz, educate your clients base, and create a community.

Believe it or not, there are actually more than 20 types of Social Media vehicles available on the web today. Some are better than others, but you will need to determine the best fit for your practice.

To take full advantage of Social Networking, at a minimum you should really strive to have a strong web presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

While you’re building your profiles and making regular posts, just keep in mind that everything you do will be judged by your audience. Every post you make will either add to your credibility or detract from it.
